Why Owners Keep Calling
No two eastern Connecticut sites are alike — ledge here, wetland there, glacial till in between. More than a thousand projects across seven towns mean we can usually call what's below grade before a machine mobilizes, and we know every local permit desk by name.
GPS-guided excavators, laser-controlled grading, and a fleet of eighteen-plus machines ready to roll. Putting the correct iron on each phase is how a site gets finished on schedule and on budget.
This is a father-and-son company, working since 2003. DJ and Trevor stand on the sites themselves, not behind a switchboard — and the crew that prices your project is the crew that builds it. We don't subcontract our core work out.
A 98% on-time record is a habit, not a fluke. If groundbreaking is set for Tuesday, the equipment arrives Tuesday, so your build never sits idle waiting on us.
Organized staging, careful work around utilities and mature plantings, and a clean site handed back to you. Two decades of construction with an environmental record we're proud of.
We quote most projects as a firm fixed price. What the work costs and what could shift it are on the table before we start — no surprise charges waiting at the end.
Out in the Field

Foundation Excavation
Plainfield, CT
Roberts Construction opened a full basement on a 1.5-acre Plainfield lot where sandy loam capped a layer of glacial till. From the first blade in the ground to a hole cleared for inspection, the whole dig ran two days.

Site Preparation & Grading
Danielson, CT
Roberts Construction brought a 3-acre Danielson retail pad from rough to finish grade under laser control. Rather than treat storm water as a bolt-on at the end, we designed the drainage into the grade plan starting with the very first cut.

Land Clearing & Tree Removal
Killingly, CT
Roberts Construction handled forestry mulching and stump removal on a 4-acre rural Killingly lot. This was selective work, not a clear-cut: we deliberately kept a mature run of trees along the property edge exactly where the owner wanted the screening.

Drainage Solutions
Norwich, CT
A permanent fix for a basement that stayed damp and a yard that pooled after every storm. Roberts Construction set a French drain around the foundation and connected it to a curtain drain upslope, intercepting the groundwater before it could reach the house.

Site Grading & Leveling
Putnam, CT
Roberts Construction ran laser-guided grading on a steep Putnam lot with granite ledge hiding below the surface. We cut a level, buildable pad and shaped every side of the surrounding grade to move water away from the house.

Full Site Preparation
Jewett City, CT
Roberts Construction took a raw, wooded Jewett City parcel and delivered it as an inspection-ready building site. Clearing, foundation dig, drainage, utility trenching, and finish grade all ran through a single crew and a single contract.
How We Work
STEP 01
Call and walk us through the project. We listen closely and ask the questions that shape a realistic plan.
STEP 02
We visit in person — read the soils, locate utilities, and check access and grade before pricing anything.
STEP 03
Within a day or two you have a clear fixed quote: defined scope, honest price, no buried fine print.
STEP 04
The crew mobilizes on schedule with a site lead you can reach directly from groundbreaking to completion.
STEP 05
We inspect the finished site with you and don't pack up until the work meets the mark.

Common Questions
Yes, on both counts. Roberts Construction carries Connecticut License #123456 along with general liability and workers' compensation coverage on every project we take on. Just ask and we'll send over a current certificate of insurance before any equipment rolls onto your property, so you always know who is working your land.
Call us at (401) 479-1472 or fill out the contact form, and DJ or Trevor will set up a time to walk the site with you. Once we've looked over the ground, the grade, and how we'll get equipment in, you'll receive a written estimate that breaks the scope out line by line, usually back to you within a day or two.
We're based in Plainfield, which puts Windham County right in our backyard and accounts for most of what we build. Beyond that we work into New London, Tolland, and Hartford counties. If your site sits farther afield in Connecticut, give us a call and we'll give you a straight answer on whether we're the right crew for the job.
Yes. A failed drainage line, a septic system that quits, a washout after a heavy storm, none of it waits for business hours, and neither do we. Call (401) 479-1472 whenever trouble hits and we'll get a crew rolling. After-hours emergency work runs at a separate rate, and we'll make that clear the moment you call.
Within our core service area of Windham, New London, and Tolland counties, travel is already built into the price with no extra line item. If your project reaches into Hartford, New Haven, or Fairfield counties, we may add a modest mobilization fee to cover moving equipment that distance. Either way, it's written into your estimate up front, never added on after the fact.
